How to Prevent Summer Beauty Woes
As soon as the sunny weather hits, weird stuff happens to your face and body. Your skin and hair dry out, your make-up melts off, you profusely sweat…all the good stuff. Here’s how to prevent summer beauty woes by a girl who knows nothing about hair or make-up.
1) Sonia Kashuk Tinted Moisturizer is a gem. I find foundation is way to heavy in the summer. Plus it hides freckles and tans! This is the best option I’ve found with spf and some coverage.
2) Laura Mercier Foundation Primer for the nights I want to wear foundation. In the summer my make-up melts right off my face. This is a solid solution to put on before foundation that will last through a night of dancing.
3) MAC Prep + Prime Coconut…the best. My skin gets really dry in the summer. I’ve been a fan of this product for a long time because it instantly brings out the moisture in your skin. It seemed to good to be true, but it actually works. MAC recently released limited edition versions of this product, including the coconut one I grabbed. They sold out almost instantly, thank GOSH for best friends that work for MAC.
4) Degree Dryspray, aka the only aerosol antiperspirant available in Canada. I know this isn’t the best product to use health-wise or environmentally, but it sure gets the job done. Widely available across the UK and Europe, I haven’t seen an aerosol sweat nabber until recently. It also costs double what normally deodorant does but it’s the one thing I have to buckle on. There were a few scents, but after testing out all of them/annoying other shoppers, I went for mango.
5) Eminence Blueberry Soy Repair Mask. This stuff works miracles. Firstly, it smells like yummy blueberries. Secondly, it transforms your skin overnight. I leave it on for 5 minutes before bed and in the morning my skin is like a baby booty. It’s not cheap, but you only need a tiny bit at a time.
6) Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula (cue Cocoa Butter Kisses). This lotion is dirt cheap in the States! It leaves your skin buttery soft and has vitamin E in it, which fades scars and stretch marks over time. It smells soo good too. Worth driving down to the USA for a stockpile.
7) Smashbox Artificial Light is one of the best highlighters I’ve used. It is really liquidy so you can mix it in with your foundation/tinted moisturizer or blend it in real easy. It looks natural which is key, for me at least. Kim Kardashian might say otherwise.
8) #GayisOk soap bar. Lush is a company I strongly back. They make amazing products that actually work. Almost every product is sustainable and vegan, and all are handmade. The profits from this soap go to grassroots LGBT rights groups and their struggle for human rights. It’s sparkly gold and goes to a great cause, raising awareness to an important issue worldwide.
9) Joe Fresh Cream Blush. Powder blush sucks in the summer. It never blends on dry skin, and leaves you with a concentrated dot of colour. NASTY. Low and behold, cream blushes. Easily blended with fingies, this product is one of the quickest and best ways to look goooood in the summer.
10) Bumble and Bumble Mending Complex. My hair is super fried. From bleaching the crap out of it, to blow drying and curling it, to swimming in salty waters, my hair takes a beating. Before blow drying my hair I use this product and it honestly makes my hair so shiny and flippable. It supposedly repairs hair damage over time. I don’t use it religiously enough to see a difference there, but I do know the instant results are amazing. It’s really light and can be kept in for second-day hair (BEST).
So, here’s what I live by in the summer. I am pretty low maintenance and all of these products are quick and easy to use. GO TRY THEM. I promise it will aid your sleepy summer mornings.
